Getting the right fencing Stockton on Tees
A fence can keep your Stockton on Tees property private as well as looking aesthetically pleasing in and of itself. However if it is not installed in the right way then it can look unappealing and in some cases may result in having to do it again and cost more money in the long term.
Do you have permission?
Planning permission rules can vary. One example is if your fence is near a footpath. If your property is near a footpath then you can’t install one that is higher than one metre without having the proper planning permission. For properties that aren’t near a public footpath or highway then it is possible to install a fence that is two metres high without planning permission.
Aside from planning permission, there is also the issue of neighbours- some may have access around your property. It is advisable to contact them first before you begin any installation work as this will allow them to prepare for any disruption that may happen.

Putting posts in
A common issue when putting fence posts in is that the posts are positioned too far apart. Ideally, posts should not be more than eight feet away from each other.
The reason that this is important is if the posts are placed too far apart then they are more likely to blow away in a storm. Aside from the damage caused to the fence, there is also the risk that this could end up damaging your property as well.
The space should be properly planned out, ideally with string or wooden stakes. This reduces the risk of overspending on materials. Digging deeper when installing the posts (at least two feet below ground level or one third the size of your fence post underground).
The material you use is also important- any wood should be treated for outdoor use or alternatively, pre-made panels or composite panels. Choosing these kinds of posts reduces the risk of warping and rotting.
It is also recommended that you install your fence facing toward your property as opposed to the other way round. In the long term, this will add to the curb appeal should you ever decide to sell your property.
Why use a professional?
It is fair to ask “Surely I can do this myself?” And it is true, it is possible to install fences yourself. But the issue with that is a lot of the processes that are involved with fencing can go wrong and it is better to use the services of an experienced professional in the local Stockton on Tees area.
